Being back in Estes Park again has re-ignited my interest in KSIR and its history. I hope you like the design of the new web site. Please feel free to comment or contribute if you have something to share!

What would you like to see featured on our web site? In addition to station history and photos (I could definitely use more!), I am thinking about adding more local content, photos, information on hiking in RMNP, and weather. What would be most useful to you?

Hey, how about a reunion? If we start talking about it now, maybe next year or within a few years! Anyone want to help me track alumni? I have started the list again, and again! Anyone ever
hear from Tom Ninniman?

Hey this is Sock Stevens. What about linking to my website, where we chart radio stations that were 100 radio stations back? Six photos and one jingle do not a website make. Get busier.

Sock, thanks for your comment. I agree that we need more content. The problem is not on my end, however. It has been very difficult to get material. If you know any former KSIR people, please invite them to contact me as I would be very happy to include their stories. As far as your web site is concerned, I'd be happy to consider a link exchange with you if you would like to send me the URL. Thanks!

Just wanted to let you know that 1470 AM in Estes Park went dark on 17 October 2011. From what I heard the shutdown took place on air in the form of a cease and desist order being issued.

Since I was not listening at the time I can't confirm what took place for sure. But they are not on and there is a small article in the Estes Park News about them going out of business.

The last few years the station was on have been like watching someone die a slow painful death. The last regime was trying to make a go of it and do some more local programming. As recently as last Friday(14 October 2011) I cut some spots for them and it sounded like they were moving ahead with the next phase.

The thing that is too bad is that other than this website I don't really know of anyone here in Estes Park that is working to preserve the history of Estes Park Radio.

I'll keep you posted if I hear about anyone trying to bring it back on the air. Or if anyone cares to navigate the FCC website to see what they can find out .

Brian, thanks for the update and also for your contributions to the site! I am sorry to hear of the demise of 1470. Hopefully, some one will bring it back. Too bad Stan is no longer with us!

I would be happy to consider adding a "Fair Trader" section to this web site if you think it would be useful to the community. Or for that matter, any other features that you think people would find useful.

Who knows, I might move out to Estes one of these days, or make it one of my regular destinations!
